Judge McCrea was appointed to the Anchorage District Court in September of 2017. This is her second retention election.

Performance Summary

After conducting its performance review, the Judicial Council determined that Judge McCrea met or exceeded performance standards on all criteria, including professional competence and legal ability, integrity, impartiality and fairness, temperament, diligence, and administrative skills.

The Council also determined that Judge McCrea met or exceeded educational requirements set by the Alaska Supreme Court, complied with judicial ethics requirements, and made exceptional contributions to the community and to the administration of justice.

Because Judge McCrea met or exceeded all performance and educational standards, the Alaska Judicial Council recommends a “yes” vote on retention in office.

Professional and community activities: Judge McCrea made exceptional contributions to the administration of justice and the community.

  • Judge McCrea served on the Statewide Magistrate Judge Evaluation Panel, a group that evaluates the performance of Magistrate Judges. She also served on the Federal Magistrate Judge Selection Panel.
  • She co-chaired the Fairness, Diversity, and Equality Committee, a group established by the Alaska Supreme Court to increase fairness and access to the courts for all Alaskans.
  • Judge McCrea served on a special court system committee that drafted revisions and updates to the Alaska Code of Judicial Conduct, the ethical code governing state court judges in Alaska.
  • She served as a Magistrate Training Judge, a role that involves training magistrate judges.
  • Judge McCrea served on the Alaska Bar Association’s Diversity Commission, and on the Diversity Implementation Task Force. Both those groups were created to help increase equality, inclusion, and diversity among Bar members.
  • She served on the court system’s Newer Judge Conference Planning Committee, a court system committee responsible for planning annual training for all newer judges (judges with fewer than three years of experience on the bench).
  • Judge McCrea participated in Color of Justice, a law-related education program designed to promote diversity in the legal profession and judiciary by encouraging diverse youth to consider careers as lawyers and judges.
  • She participated in Success Inside and Out, a program that helps incarcerated women re-enter the community.
  • Judge McCrea volunteered at the Alaska Bar Association’s Martin Luther King Law Day Pro Bono Legal Clinic.

Other performance indicators: A review of Judge McCrea’s financial and conflict of interest statements showed she complied with all disclosure requirements.

Timeliness: Alaska law requires judges’ pay be withheld when a decision has been pending longer than six months. The Council verified that Judge McCrea was paid on schedule, and she certified she had no untimely decisions.

Ethics: There were no public disciplinary proceedings against Judge McCrea, and the Council’s review found no ethical concerns.
